The scope of their duties may go beyond the purely secretarial and include working with legal language, procedures, and paperwork. Responsibilities may differ according to the scale of a law office or the type of legal practice, but here’s an extensive overview of what a secretary performs in a law firm. 

 Conducting Internal and External Contacts, Making Appointments 

A legal secretary's key responsibility is to ensure efficient communication in the office. This relates to being on the phone, answering emails, and managing clients, courts, and lawyers’ correspondence. They may also be called to schedule meetings for lawyers, clients, or any other relevant authority so that court hearings are well organised. In large law offices, a legal secretary works with several lawyers and coordinates many calendars and deadlines.

Preparing and Filing Legal Documents­ 

Preparation and filing of legal documents has been claimed to be one of the duties of the legal secretaries. Solicitors contracts; professional diagrams; briefs; witnesses’ pleadings; and photographs, signets, or associates’ affidavit documents. Legal secretaries prepare the trial hearings as a case goes through the litigation process. This may consist of preparing exhibits and evidence and communicating with the court.
